Who is an overseas
occupational therapist? If you have obtained your occupational
therapy degree,
diploma or certificate from an occupational therapy school in your country and want to
go to and work in another country, then you are an overseas
occupational therapist or a foreign occupational therapist in the country
you want to go to and work in. You are a local or domestic
occupational therapist in your country.
For example, you are a registered occupational therapist in the United
States. You want to work in Australia. Then you are
a domestic occupational therapist in the United States and an
overseas or foreign
occupational therapist in Australia. If you want to work in
Australia, you need to follow the guidelines issued
by the office governing occupational therapists in Australia.
Whatever be your professional standing and
achievement in your country, it is generally not
fully recognized in most foreign countries until you satisfy the
requirements for an overseas occupational therapist in that country.
The four essential steps in becoming a successful overseas
occupational therapist are:
- Passing the qualification examination or
getting exemption
- Getting temporary or permanent registration
- Obtaining an occupational therapist training position or an
occupational Therapist job
- Obtaining visa or residence permit
The other factors you need to consider are:
- Language
- Social life
- Accommodation
- Transport
- Family
